Weldbond adhesive reviews

Produced by The Spanish Club of the University of Pennsylvania (May 1928) starring Anne E.

Remember Me? Results 1 to 12 of Thread: Titebond vs weldbond. Thread Tools Show Printable Version. Titebond is fairly hard to come by this side of the Pacific, only being available from a few specialist outlets, but Weldbond Professional from Canada is much more common. Though I have been using Titebond for 25 years or so, I was wondering what the general opinion on the Weldbond glue was.

Always a bit nervous about trying something out and finding that it doesn't work as well as hoped. I'd be curious to know if Weldbond is reversible. It looks good from what I can see, but as we know now from Titebond II, looking good in the sales hype and being safe for lutherie uses are two different things. Titebond I is reversible, the others aren't.

I'd check to be absolutely sure Weldbond isn't another Titebond II or something like it. Well, it seems no-one has any opinions on this, so I suppose I will have to do some experiments! The obvious ones would seem to be: 1. Resistance to heat? All ideas welcomed graham. Sorry your not getting more replies, I think that people are not ducking your question, but most likly a lot of people like me who would normally reply have never heard of Weldbond.

I know I haven't, sorry. I hope some out there who have used it reply. Bill P. I'm not offended or anything. I have no idea how available the Weldbond line is in the US.

Perhaps it is not common. I know that Titebond and the Elmers glues can be bought at just about every hardware store in the US, but neither are generally available out here on the far side of the world. A few of the Australian adhesive manufacturers have started making yellow aliphatic glues in addition to their normal white PVA and one of the big hardware chains are stocking Weldbond.

It looks like I will just have to go a buy a bunch of them and set up some tests to see have they compare to Titeband and hide glue. It should make an interesting article for the GAL quaterly cheers graham. Weldbond seems to be available in the States, but it's been pre-trumped in the general marketplace by Titebond, and further trumped in the lutherie marketplace by LMII's aliphatic. If it won't, I see no reason to look at it any further. Their sales hype tells us nothing.

I've only used a bit of Weldbond for bindings, simply because it dries clear. At one point, I considered the possibility that the LMI glue was re-packaged Weldbond, as the two are very much alike Their sales hype runs so deep that it is hard to decipher any information from it, and a phone call leads no further, so we're left on our own.

It worked well for bindings both wood and celluloid softened with a acetone wipe. I suspect it's no different than other PVA type glues. My main issue was the inability to read the manufacturing codes, leaving us wit no idea of freshness, and for that reason, I never used it from anything but bindings, and never bought a second bottle.

No bottle date? Hmm, and they tell you "Do not allow Weldbond to freeze when in a liquid state. I had considered it might actually be LMI's glue simply relabeled. This sort of thing happens. Using Titebond below 10C results in any squeezout drying as chalky white residue which seems impervious to washing away. As I have discovered to my annoyance one early winter's morning.

Graham, you can buy Titebond from Carba-Tec Canberra. The last time I was there they had plenty of it in stock. Hello Peter. I know I can get Titebond from Carbatec and do , but it is much curiousity as anything else about alternatives cheers graham. It is water resistant but not waterproof, impervious to gasoline, oil, grease, salt, molds and fungi, weak alkalies and weak acids.

It is non-staining and will not become brittle with age. It creates a flexible bond. It is ready for use, it does not require heating or mixing. Remove all loose particles. All oil, grease and dirt must be removed. Porous surfaces can be determined by dropping a small amount of water on surface. If water is readily absorbed, surface is porous. If water beads on the surface, it is not porous. Check for warping of material and use clamping where warping is evident.

Bonding Porous Surfaces i. China, Pottery, Ceramics - First seal both surfaces as above. Allow to dry approx. Bonding Porous to Non-Porous Materials i. Wood to Metal - Spread thin film on both surfaces. Leave open for 1 to 2 minutes to become tacky and slightly transparent, then squeeze both surfaces together with slight turning motion. The longer it is left to cure, the stronger the bond. When fully cured the bond is clear transparent. Bonding Non-Porous Materials i.

Glass to Glass - Spread thin film on both surfaces. Leave open for 2 to 3 minutes, then squeeze surfaces together with a slight turning motion. When cured the bond is clear. Higher temperature and lower humidity speeds curing. Rinse tools thoroughly with clean water after use. Even this diluted mixture creates an exceptional bond. Provides a strong bond within 24 hours and tremendous strength within a few days. Resistance Very Good G.

It is not recommended for use on exposed exterior surfaces. Garage interiors are acceptable. NOTE: Do not use when bonding containers designed for use with, or subject to, hot liquids. Replies: 8 Last: Apr, pm. Replies: 7 Last: Aug, pm.
